Chancellor's Forums for Fall 2021

Aggie Wellness Day - Oct. 13
N.C. A& T will pause classes on Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2021, for Aggie Wellness Day to allow students time to focus on their physical and emotional wellbeing. Aggie Wellness Day will follow Fall Break, Oct. 11-12. All classes and meetings should be suspended to allow students an additional day to rejuvenate, reset and prepare to complete the second half of the semester with a strong finish.

Sabbatical Program for Tenured Faculty
Effective Fall 2021, the university will support two sabbaticals each academic year. Tenured faculty members wishing to apply for consideration should notify their department chairs in advance of the intent to file for sabbatical leave and should follow the Reassigned Time Policy.
All full-time tenured faculty with a minimum of seven years of full-time, continuous service at N.C. A&T are eligible to apply for sabbatical.The deadline to notify department chairs of the intent to file for reassigned time is Sept. 20, this year only. All written proposals for Faculty Reassigned Time or Sabbatical Leave are due to department chairs no later than Oct. 11. For full information and deadlines, see the Provost's Memo in your university email.

ADVANCE IT Project: Accepting Applications for Workshop Facilitators
The ADVANCE IT Project is seeking to identify NC A&T faculty interested in being trained as facilitator for the ADVANCE "Commitment to Faculty Success: Fostering Equity, Inclusion and Transparency in Faculty Hiring and Tenure-Promotion Decisions" workshop series. These workshops provide strategies for identifying implicit bias in tenure-promotion and hiring decisions as well as strategies for fostering excellence and equity at all levels of decision making. Each workshop integrates recordings of theatrical skits followed by an interactive facilitated discussion led by a trained facilitator.
Open to tenured associate or full professor (all genders) with the following experience:
Service on a search committee and/or tenure & promotion committee; Engaged in interactive teaching practices; Facilitated workshops using a process-oriented approach; Knowledge of faculty dynamics and the impact of bias in decision-making.

Department Chairpersons and Administrative Support Banner Admin Pages Training
In preparation for spring 2022 course scheduling, the Office of the Registrar will host virtual Banner Admin Pages training sessions via Zoom. These sessions are for department chairpersons and administrative assistants that are responsible for assigning advisors for advisement, creating class sections, assigning instructors, and completing overrides for the department. Register in advance for one of the following sessions.  

Wednesday, Oct. 6, 4 – 5 p.m.  

Thursday, Oct 7, 8 – 9 a.m.  

Wednesday, Oct. 13, 4 – 5 p.m.

Online Survey about Computer Use 
N.C. A&T and Elon University are collaborating on a research study. Participants fill out an online survey that asks questions about computer and internet use, presents some computer use scenarios, and asks about beliefs about getting things done. The study is approximately 15-25 minutes long, and compensation is provided. Must be ages 18-25 OR 65 years of age or older and access to a computer with internet connection to participate. To learn more, email elonmemorylab@gmail.com.

Community Engagement Training Survey
The Office for Community Engagement would like to invite faculty and staff members to participate in a short survey to identify how we can drive the university's commitment to positively impact the surrounding community. Your responses will be used to develop a set of community engagement training modules, beginning next semester. Please follow the link provided and share it with colleagues.

Annual Security and Fire Safety Report Available
North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University's 2021 Annual Security and Fire Safety Report is available on the N.C. A&T website.
The 2021 Annual Security and Fire Safety Report contains information regarding campus security and personal safety including topics such as crime prevention, fire safety, university police law enforcement authority, crime reporting policies, disciplinary procedures and other matters of importance related to security and safety on campus.
It also contains information about crime statistics for the three previous calendar years concerning reported crimes that occurred on campus; in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by N.C. A&T and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus.

 

Copyright and Fair Use Workshop - Oct. 5
Join Bluford Library  to learn the basics for copyright, fair use rules and user rights in general. Let us help you determine if works are Public Domain or Open-Source, and help with Plagiarism vs. Citing. With all the information available, you need to know what’s right and what’s wrong in the world of copyright. You tell us whether your use is for research, teaching, and/or performing and we will help you find appropriate resources to protect you and the University. This active virtual workshop, on Oct. 5 at 11 a.m., will help you navigate current legislation and common practices to avoid plagiarism and/or infringement situations that can put us all at risk. Citation Management Transition Workshop - Oct. 5
N.C. A&T is transitioning from EndNote to RefWorks. Learn how to export your library from EndNote and import it into the new RefWorks citation management tool. Users will learn how to create an account in RefWorks. Tuesday, Oct. 5 at 3 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Register here. 

CSAM Launch: Do Your Part. #BeCyberSmart - Oct. 5
We invite our N.C. A&T community to join ITS & CREO as we kick off Cybersecurity Awareness Month this October. This virtual session, Tuesday, Oct. 5 at 10 a.m., features remarks by Chancellor Harold L. Martin Sr., Senior Vice Provost Tonya Smith-Jackson and CREO's Director, Dr. Hossein Sarrafzadeh. We will feature special guests, James Donoghue and James Cheeks, that will share a law enforcement perspective on cybersecurity protection. "CSAM: Why Do We Fall for Internet Fraud Schemes?" Webinar - Oct. 6
How many times a day do you receive a text, phone call, email or social media post offering you "AMAZING DEALS!" or "ONE TIME ONLY!" offers? Most of us recognize these "offers" as fraudulent attempts to con us out of sensitive information and ultimately money. While most of these attempts are easy to spot, clever fraudsters are continually developing nuanced social engineering schemes to target unsuspecting victims.
CSAM: Why Do We Fall for Internet Fraud Schemes?
Dr. Robin Valeri, Professor of Psychology at St. Bonaventure University, will examine common internet fraud schemes that rely on social engineering and explore the psychology behind why so many of us fall for these schemes. Click here for webinar information.

National Depression Screening Day - Oct. 7
Thursday Oct. 7 is National Depression Screening Day. Counseling Services staff will be administering and interpreting depression screenings from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in 3 locations: ACB Lobby, Williams Dining Hall Breezeway, and Murphy Hall Lobby. Information about Counseling Services will also be provided.

2021 TEDxGreensboro - Oct. 7
Two N.C. A&T researchers, Omon Isikhuemhen, Ph.D., and Yeoheung Yun, Ph.D., will present their expertise on mini-brain development in the fight against Alzheimer's and mushroom and fungal biotechnology, respectively, at the hybrid 2021 TEDxGreensboro event. NC Office of Strategic Partnerships Meeting - Oct. 7
The Division of Research and Economic Development is hosting a virtual meeting Thursday, Oct. 7, 10 a.m. - noon with representatives from The North Carolina Office of Strategic Partnerships. The Office of Strategic Partnerships increases and enhances partnerships between state government and NC’s research institutions and the philanthropic sector. Representatives from this office will be on hand to engage in discussions about research and collaborative partnership opportunities with state government agencies. Citation Management [RefWorks] Workshop - Oct. 7
With ProQuest’s RefWorks citation management software, students, faculty, staff, and other members of the N.C. A&T community will learn how this cloud-based application can reduce the time and effort needed to produce a reference list and/or place proper in-text citations in a paper for a class assignment, Master's Thesis, PhD Dissertation, journal article, and/or grant proposal. Users do NOT need to download or install any software, although there are plugins available for Cite While You Write functions in Word and Google Docs. Users only need to create a login using their A&T One ID. (Approximately 60 minutes) Register here.

Romantic Communication - every Wednesday
Romance is a way people choose to interact with each other whether or not the relationship is intimate. Come out to this 5 week group and learn some healthy communication skills. Groups will be held virtually on Wednesdays at 2 p.m., Oct. 13 - Nov. 10.   

"For Me" Series - every Tuesday
A five-part series, each one-hour group discussing a different topic including forgiveness, anxiety, depression, stress and self-care. This group is to focus on mental wellness and healing. Please join every Tuesday at 2 p.m., Sept. 14- Oct. 12.

Volunteers Needed For COVID-19 Study

Volunteers requested for a research study within the Social Work and Sociology Department at N.C. A&T. The purpose of this study is to explore the attitudes and concerns that A&T students have about romantic and sexual relationships during COVID-19. This study will also examine attitudes and perceptions about the COVID-19 vaccines. Qualified students will receive a $25 gift card for participating in a virtual interview. Blood Pressure Study

We are looking for African American men and women between the ages of 30-50 with normal and mild to moderately elevated BP to participate in a research study being conducted by Dr. Marc Cook in the Department of Kinesiology at North Carolina A&T. The research will examine the relationship between a short chain fatty acid, that is made in our colon by bacteria, on blood pressure (BP). Depending on whether you have high BP or not, your participation in the research will involve a total of 3-5 visits to A&T campus over a period of 2-3 weeks. The testing will include collecting information about your diet, a swab of a stool sample, measuring BP and blood levels of the short chain fatty acid related to BP. If you have moderately elevated BP, you will be asked to participate in a short intervention to increase the short chain fatty acid levels in your gut. All tests will be performed free of charge to you. You will be compensated for your participation.
