FY22 Year-end Closeout Procedures for Various Areas

As we approach year end, please be advised the collapse of State Funds will be Friday, May 13, 2022. State funds will be collapsed effective Friday, May 13, 2022. Please be reminded that the collapse process is applicable to state funds only.

These accounts are exempt ONLY for planned travel, communication, and maintenance expenditures after the May 13 collapse. Overhead, contracts and grants and auxiliary fund budgets are not affected by the collapse. Please refer to FY2022 Year End Close Memo for additional details and dates.

Student Honors Convocation - April 13
The Student Honors Convocation will be held Wednesday, April 13, at 10 a.m., in the Richard B. Harrison Auditorium. The purpose of this ceremony is to acknowledge undergraduate students who have completed a minimum of 12 credit hours and maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher. Several of our students will serve as our speakers, including senior mechanical engineering major, Imani Caldwell, as the keynote speaker and our 2021-22 Aggie Poet Laureate, Erykah Drone.

North Carolina A&T State University holds all its students in high esteem and takes pride in their accomplishments. Therefore, all faculty and senior administrators are expected to attend and are required to wear academic regalia to participate in the procession. Classes are suspended from 10 a.m. until noon, to allow all students (regardless of their GPA) and the university community to attend.

2022 UNCSO Employee Engagement Survey - Deadline Extended
The UNC System Office has kicked off its third Employee Engagement Survey. This confidential survey provides an opportunity for your voices to be heard on important workplace issues and for leadership to understand what progress has been made since the previous surveys in 2018 and 2020. The anonymous survey results will help identify essential employment trends and issues across the UNC System. 

You have received an email from ModernThink, our survey administrator, with more information and a personal link to access the survey March 28–April 18. This survey is confidential. Your response will not be linked to your name.

Aggie Summer Scholarships

Aggie Summer Scholarships are available for students enrolled in a degree-seeking program and register for Summer Session I or II by April 25. The Scholarship covers tuition and fees only, up to six credit hours (not to exceed the cost of attendance) with no application required. Students may view their award via Aggie Access Online, beginning April 19. Awards are processed weekly until funding is exhausted. 

Nominations Open for Community Engagement Awards

Annual community engagement awards reflect the impactful research, partnerships, teaching and learning that is being conducted within, and in partnership with, the university.
Please nominate yourself or a colleague for the Community Engaged Teaching Award and/or the Community Engaged Research Award by Tuesday, April 12. Please also share any nominations for the Community Partnership Award by the same deadline.
Nominations may be submitted here until 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, April 12, by following the Qualtrics link provided. A text version of the application may also be requested by sending an email to Lonnie Cockerham at llcocker@ncat.edu.

Lot Closure for Aggie Fest

Sullivan Street Closure

In preparation for the SUAB Block Party on Thursday, April 14, Sullivan Street will be temporarily closed to traffic from Benbow to the intersection of Lindsay Street at noon. Faculty, staff and students who drive to campus should plan accordingly. The Aggie Shuttle stops on Sullivan Street (near Barnes Hall), and Student Center will not be in service due to the street closure. The Passio Go Shuttle tracking app will be updated to show the new route for that afternoons shuttle stops. Thank you for your cooperation and support.

COVID-19 Testing and Vaccination/Boosters Available
Testing is easy and free for students and employees, available Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Alumni Foundation Event Center, next door to the Student Health Center. Vaccination and booster shots are also free and available at the Alumni Foundation Event Center and the Student Health Center Pharmacy. 

Flu Vaccine Available

The Student Health Center is now offering the flu shot for this upcoming winter months! Please come by the Student Health Center during our current business hours.

AggieAlert! Account Holds

When registering for classes, all students are required to OPT IN or OPT OUT of AggieAlert!, the university’s emergency notification system that sends text messages to your phone in the event of emergencies, life-threatening situations and/or inclement weather. Failure to opt-in or opt-out prior to class registration will result in a hold being placed on student accounts. To prevent an account hold, log into Aggie Access / Aggie Alert and follow the instructions. The registration period for fall and summer 2022 classes is April 4–25.

Summer/Fall 2022 Course Advisement and Registration - begins March 14

Advisement for summer/fall 2022 begins on March 14. Students should contact their faculty advisor to schedule an appointment to discuss courses they should take based on your curriculum guide. Alternate pins are to be obtained from faculty advisor and/or department chairperson.
Registration begins on April 4 until April 25. Students can begin registering for classes based on their earned hours.
Monday, April 4 – Graduate Students and Seniors (90 or more earned credit hours)
Tuesday, April 5 – Juniors (60 – 89 earned credit hours)
Wednesday, April 6 – Sophomores (30 – 59 earned credit hours)
Thursday, April 7 – Freshmen (less than 30 earned credit hours)

Vote for Text-in-Community Book for 2022-2023
The Text-in-Community Committee invites you to vote for one the following seven books that were nominated for the 2022-2023 year. Each book meets Text-in-Community's goals of addressing national or international issues that (1) take an interdisciplinary approach to problems or challenges, (2) are part of conversations taking place at the national level, (3) would broaden and deepen interactions between students, faculty, staff, and greater Greensboro community members, and (4) provide opportunities for creative programming during the academic year. Call for Citizen Science Faculty Fellows - deadline April 15

The National Science Foundation funded project “Collaborative Research: Building Capacity to Improve STEM Education through Citizen Science by Scaling Up University-Community Partnerships” is seeking applications for four Citizen Science Faculty Fellow positions for Summer 2022. Candidates for these positions are faculty who possess an interest in experiential learning approaches and scientific literacy. Full-time faculty (Tenure-track and Non-tenure track) from any department are eligible. Fellows will work with the project team to develop citizen science course learning modules that they will then use in their classes in the Fall 2022 semester. The length of engagement runs from June 1 - July 22 (with the week of July 4 off). Faculty Fellows will receive a $2,500 stipend and $800 toward travel to present at a citizen science, SoTL, or other conference. Fellows will be expected to spend 3-4 hours a week on support activities (one hour weekly virtual meeting and 2 hours of flexible remote work). Faculty can submit applications here. NSF International Research Experience in Botswanan – Deadline April 15
Selected IRES students will work alongside research mentors from N.C. A&T, Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST) and Appalachian State University to conduct research in: Geophysics and seismology, atmospheric Physics/Chemistry and air quality using field measurements.

New Electronic Forms for University Events

The University Event Center would like to inform you that in the continued effort to provide a superior customer experience, multiple forms used in the process of reserving spaces on campus have been modernized and are now available electronically. Accessible from our main University Event Center page on the NCAT website, the Cancellation/Change Form, Online Username & Password Request Form, Student Center Reservation Request Form, Digital Display Board Request Form can all completed and submitted directly to our staff for processing. As you will see there are two options for our, one set that is accessible utilizing you university issued One-ID and one for individuals without a University issued One-ID.
Please note that reservations all forms will be processed within 2-3 business days, this will allow our office to execute the process most efficient way possible. Forms will be processed in the order they are received and event locations are available on a first come, first serve bases.

N.C. A&T Planning for In-Person Summer Camps

The university will return to in-person summer camp programs. As part of its risk management efforts, the university centralized the registration process for summer camps/sponsored programs. Faculty, staff, program directors, and other personnel organizing, leading, and managing these efforts must register all summer camps/sponsored programs through the Extended Campus via this link.
The Extended Campus supports the procedures for compliance with the Minors on Campus policy, which promotes the safety and well-being of minors entrusted to the University's care. All directors, camp personnel, and volunteers working with the camps will complete the mandatory online Protection of Minors Training. University Space Planning Committee Survey
The University Space Planning Committee welcomes your feedback regarding a potential addition to our campus. As N.C. A&T continues to improve our spaces on campus, we are committed to providing spaces that accommodate a diverse set of needs. In this regard, we are exploring lactation rooms to be used by students, faculty and staff with infants. A lactation space is a private, hygienic space for nursing mothers and infants. Clinical Study Volunteers Needed
The Center of Excellence in Post Harvest Technologies located at the North Carolina Research Campus in Kannapolis is looking for volunteers to participate in a clinical study. We are investigating how food plays an important part in our health and how the food is broken down after being eaten. You may qualify if your BMI is between 18-25 or 30-40, you are 18-65 years of age, and you are of African American decent. Participation involves completing a 5-day food diary and providing one stool sample collection. Volunteers Needed for Blood Pressure Research Study to Begin April

Do you have high blood pressure and you are taking three or more blood
pressure medications? You may be eligible for an 8-week study on stress
management.
You may qualify if you identify as African American/Black; are being treated with three or more blood pressure medications; and/or are between 18 and 90+ years old.
Participation involves attending a stress management class for 1.5 hours a week for 8-weeks and a 4-hour silent retreat; keeping a weekly log of blood pressure; and completing a 1-hour group interview about the stress management program
at the end of the 8-weeks.

Tuition Assistance Transition

SHRA Mandatory Information Security Training

The university is required to provide information security awareness training each year. Training for SHRA employees began Oct. 19. Topics will include information technology policies, fundamental security knowledge, common cyber security threats, social engineering red flags, WiFi security, social media sharing and phishing prevention. This training is mandatory for all SHRA employees. The training is self-paced and each module can be paused and resumed. After module is completed, employees will be able to download a certificate of completion. The deadline to complete training is Thursday, June 30, 2022. Learn STEM Skills and Credentials with Digital Badge Program
N.C. A&T is starting a digital badge program, funded by the National Science Foundation, to enable undergraduate students to increase their STEM skills through mentorship programs, experiential learning activities, research opportunities, scholarships, and more. The ASETTS program will connect students to researchers, professionals, and alumni from STEM‐related fields currently working in transportation careers and give students extra credentials to increase their marketability and secure employment after graduation.

Aggie Talk Podcast
Aggie Talk is a resource for students and staff at North Carolina A&T State University. Aggie Talk does not take the place of clinical mental health treatment. This podcast is a resource. It is our hope that Aggie Talk introduces new concepts, inspires listeners to pursue professional help if necessary, and to be a catalyst for conversation surrounding mental health. Host Jovan Shumpert, MS, LCMHCA will discuss current events, mental health facts and experiences, and will be joined by colleagues to discuss their areas of expertise. Citation Management [RefWorks] Workshop – April 12

With ProQuest’s RefWorks citation management software, students, faculty, staff, and other members of the N.C. A&T community will learn how this cloud-based application can reduce the time and effort needed to produce a reference list and/or place proper in-text citations in a paper for a class assignment, Master's Thesis, Ph.D. dissertation, journal article, and/or grant proposal. Specific skills include importing and saving citations from databases, attaching PDFs to these citations, inserting citations directly into word processing software (Microsoft Word or Google Docs) using one of over 6,000 citation styles, exporting from RefWorks to create a "Quick Bibliography," and organizing references. Users do NOT need to download or install any software, although there are plugins available for the RefWorks Citation Manager functions in Word and Google Docs. Users only need to create an account and then login using their A&T email information. (Approximately 60 minutes) Register here.

2022 Governor's Awards for Excellence (GAE) Nomination – Deadline April 14
The nomination period for the 2022 Governor’s Awards for Excellence (GAE) is now accepting nominations until 5 p.m. on April 14, 2022. This is the highest honor a state employee may receive for dedicated service to the State of North Carolina and its residents. The individual employees or teams may be nominated in the following categories:        • Customer Service    • Efficiency and Innovation    • Human Relations    • Outstanding State Government Service    • Public Service    • Safety and Heroism • Spirit of North Carolina    The nomination form and additional information is available here. Dr. Joseph Graves Book Signing at Scuppernong Books - April 16

Scuppernong Books in downtown Greensboro will host a book signing with Joseph Graves Jr., Ph.D., a professor in the College of Science and Technology's Department of Biology and co-author of "Racism, not Race: Answers to Frequently Asked Questions." The book signing will be April 16, at 6 p.m. at Scuppernong Books, 304 South Elm Street.

Data Management Planning for Research Faculty – April 19

Are you applying for a research grant or beginning a research study? If you don’t have a Data Management Plan (DMP), you’re going to need one! All federal funding agencies now require DMPs. Join us to see how data management planning improves the quality of your research project and benefits all members of the research team, as well as other scientists around the world. This workshop will cover the basics of comprehensive data management planning, including storage of and global access to your data. (Approximately 75 minutes) Register for this online workshop.

 Financial Literacy Day - April 19
The Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships will be hosting the 6th Annual Financial Literacy Day on Tuesday, April 19, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. The event will be held at the Student Center, Deese Ballroom. Additionally, those who wish to attend virtually will receive a Zoom link after registration for each session. You will receive an email per session with the Zoom link included - be sure to save the email for easier access to the session. CEPDAM-SME Student Case Challenge Competition - April 23

The Center of Excellence in Product Design and Advanced Manufacturing (CEPDAM) and Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) are hosting a student case challenge competition on April 23, 2022. Student teams at both undergraduate and graduate levels compete to solve a design and automation case study. Winning teams will receive monetary awards - 1st prize: $400, 2nd prize: $200 and 3rd prize: $150. Student teams register here.

Research Impact: Assessing and Tracking Your Research – April 28

Do you want to know what kind of impact your published research is making in your discipline? Do you want to plan your research trajectory? Looking to publish in the top journals but do not know where to start?   Join Bluford Library to learn how you can track, analyze, and visualize the impact of your research. We will explore research impact tools that are easy to use, and which provide a variety of options for analyzing your research engagement. These tools also provide opportunities to network with other researchers in your field and identify potential collaborators.
