Blood Pressure Study
We are looking for African American men and women between the ages of 30-50 with normal and mild to moderately elevated BP to participate in a research study being conducted by Dr. Marc Cook in the Department of Kinesiology at North Carolina A&T. The research will examine the relationship between a short chain fatty acid, that is made in our colon by bacteria, on blood pressure (BP). Depending on whether you have high BP or not, your participation in the research will involve a total of 3-5 visits to A&T campus over a period of 2-3 weeks. The testing will include collecting information about your diet, a swab of a stool sample, measuring BP and blood levels of the short chain fatty acid related to BP. If you have moderately elevated BP, you will be asked to participate in a short intervention to increase the short chain fatty acid levels in your gut. All tests will be performed free of charge to you. You will be compensated for your participation. If you are interested to learn more about the study or if you would like to participate, please contact mdcook@ncat.edu.
