Graduate Assistant Training Overview

Every student with a graduate assistantship is required to complete the mandatory Graduate Assistant Training. The required training components vary based on the type of assistantship listed on the contract.

The student must complete the online Graduate Assistant Training components before the position start date in order for the payroll process to be completed. Failure to complete the training may result in termination of the position.

Please carefully review the training components required for your assistantship type and make sure to complete all components. For most of these training components, the student must review the relevant training materials and then validate their training using Blackboard. Detailed instructions are provided on the pages linked below.

Training Requirements by Assistantship Type

GRADUATE ASSISTANT TYPE (from Contract)

TRAINING COMPONENTS REQUIRED
(IMPORTANT:
All online training components for the specified assistantship type must be completed prior to the position start date in order for the payroll process to be completed)

 

Graduate Research Assistant (RA)

 

Complete both of the following components:

(1)   Core Training Module on Policies and Legal/Ethical Issues

(2)   GRA Supplementary Training (RCR)

 

Graduate Teaching Assistant (*TA)

 

Complete the following components:

(1)   Core Training Module on Policies and Legal/Ethical Issues

(2)   GTA / GA-Academic Supplementary Training

Graduate Assistant – Academic (GA-Academic)

Complete the following components:

(1)   Core Training Module on Policies and Legal/Ethical Issues

(2)   GTA / GA-Academic Supplementary Training

Graduate Assistant – Administrative (GA-Admin)

Complete the following components:

(1)   Core Training Module on Policies and Legal/Ethical Issues

(2)   GA-Admins should consult with their supervisor regarding any additional training specific to the position
