Reasonable Accommodation

North Carolina A&T State University is committed to providing equal access and opportunity for qualified individuals with disabilities and individuals who require accommodations due to pregnancy. Consistent with federal and state laws, the University works to ensure that employees, applicants for employment, visitors, guests, and participants in University programs and activities can fully engage in the workplace and campus community.

A reasonable accommodation is a modification or adjustment that enables a qualified individual to perform essential job functions, participate in University programs, or access services and activities on an equal basis. Accommodations are determined through an interactive, individualized process that considers the person's needs and the essential requirements of the position, program, or activity.

  • Requesting an Accommodation

Employees seeking a reasonable accommodation should complete and submit a Reasonable Accommodation Request Form to the Department of Human Resources at reasonableaccom@ncat.edu.  Applicants for employment may request accommodations through the hiring process by notifying the hiring supervisor or Human Resources. Visitors, guests, and participants in University-sponsored programs or events should contact the sponsoring department as far in advance as possible to discuss accommodation needs.

  • Pregnancy-Related Accommodations

Employees seeking accommodations related to pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions should contact Workplace Relations by sending an email to reasonableaccom@ncat.edu.

  • Confidentiality and Non-Retaliation
The University maintains the confidentiality of accommodation-related information and prohibits retaliation against any individual who requests, receives, or participates in the accommodation process.
For additional information, please review University Policy 201, (add link to policy once updated) Disability and Reasonable Accommodation, or email reasonableaccom@ncat.edu.

Resources

At North Carolina A&T State University, and other state agencies, employees are governed by the Office of State Human Resources (OSHR) Disciplinary Action Policy (DAP or “Policy”). The Policy serves as a guide to address and correct inadequate job performance and unacceptable personal conduct among state employees in a progressive manner.  The types of disciplinary actions include warnings, demotion, suspension and dismissal.

The DAP applies to employees who are State Human Resources Act (SHRA)-covered employees with career status, defined as those in permanent positions whom the State of North Carolina has continuously employed for the past twelve (12) months (N.C.G.S. § 126-1.1), and EHRA Faculty and non-faculty (UNC Policy EHRA Policy)(NCAT University Policy 161) as a guide when managing performance and personal conduct to ensure uniformity and consistency in handling disciplinary matters across the university.

North Carolina A&T State University remains committed to providing a welcoming and inviting campus community to all our students, faculty and staff. Our continued goal remains to be ensuring our recruitment and hiring process is void of any artificial barriers that prevent the hiring of qualified individuals. We are committed to achieving the strategic goals established in Preeminence 2030. Goal 5 relates directly to creating a campus community that is reflective of the students we serve.

With that in mind, we are pleased to announce the new N.C. A&T Search Committee Certification Program (SCCP). In June 2016, the Department of Human Resources introduced a comprehensive Search Committee Training course intended to provide guidance for our EHRA Faculty search committees. To avoid repeated trainings of employees and provide qualified search committee members, we have developed SCCP. In this new process, the dean may select committee members from a pool of faculty members who have a two-year certificate to serve on a committee. If a member’s certification expires, that member will have to re-certify through training before they can sit on a committee. Certified members are listed in this link: Search Committee Certified Members. Please select the following link to access the Search Committee Training.

If selected to serve on a Search Committee, members are required to complete the Search Committee Confidentiality Agreement to pledge that all information disclosed during the search remains confidential.

For more information or assistance, please contact Orielle Hope, AVC for HR Operations and Workplace Relations, 336-285-3801 or oehope@ncat.edu.
