Looking for development ideas for a direct report, ways to improve your team’s performance, or help preparing for your next role or challenges?  We can help with that and more.  Explore the many development resources available to you and your team members, including custom team support. 

Self-directed courses allow your direct reports to refine their leadership skills at a pace and time that works best for them.  These on-demand resources are available free of charge, require no preapproval, may be taken in any sequence and as many times as desired.  Certified courses are available in the following areas:

  • Care and Career

An extensive number of professional and leadership development workshops are offered each semester and during the summer.  There are no prerequisites or preapprovals needed and they can be taken in any sequence.  Workshops are currently offered in the in the following areas:

Catalyst (Coming Fall of 2022)

Catalyst is a custom program created for newly promoted managers and other first-time people leaders at N.C. A&T.  Participants examine the operational practices and processes involved in leading people, explore how to delegate and set performance goals, and learn to build effective teams.

Wildfire (Coming Spring 2023)

Wildfire is a six-month development experience created exclusively for N.C. A&T’s newly promoted Directors and other first-time leaders of leaders.  Participants examine the skills and capabilities needed to lead effectively from the “middle” of the university.  Working collaboratively with colleagues from across the campus they enhance their abilities as enterprise enablers, talent developers, change agents, and network builders. 

BRIDGES

The UNC System Office sponsors BRIDGES, an inclusive professional development program for women in higher education who seek to gain or strengthen their academic leadership capabilities or who demonstrate a commitment to supporting women and gender issues and equality in the academy.  Through an intensive program, participants develop insights into leadership, with a particular focus on the special skills and attributes women bring to their leadership roles.  The program was designed with the following participants in mind - faculty interested in developing their leadership skills, faculty looking to move into academic administration, and administrators seeking to enhance their effectiveness and/or expand their roles

Advanced Skills For Managers

The North Carolina Office of State Human Resources’ Advanced Skills for Managers (ASM) provides participants with strategies to effectively carry out the leadership aspects of the management role. Sessions concentrate on utilizing leadership best practices to develop high performing employees and work teams through hands-on application of skills including Myers-Briggs Type Indicator®, Situational Leadership II®, ethical decision-making methods, performance gap analysis, coaching for effective performance, team dynamics and development strategies, conducting meetings, and managing conflict.

Certified Public Manager (CPM) Program

The North Carolina Office of State Human Resources sponsors CPM, an in-depth nationally-certified professional development program for middle managers from state, federal and local government organizations. The program is designed for those who supervise other supervisors, or professionals who have program management responsibilities which affect a wide geographic area or a large number of stakeholders.
