Resources for Program Chairs and Course Designers
The Extended Campus assists colleges and programs who wish to offer courses online. Visit the pages in this section from the left-hand navigation to learn more about offering online courses and about master courses. See below for our various course design services.
Design & Quality Enhancement Services
New Course Development
New master courses are developed by faculty acting as the subject matter expert (SME) and sole course developer OR as the SME while working with an instructional designer who builds the course. These faculty are nominated by the dean and chair to participate in the formal course development process offered by the Extended Campus.
Course Redesign
Existing master courses may need a redesign for a variety of reasons to enhance quality. Redesigns require substantial changes to existing online courses in order to introduce new outcomes, competencies, domain knowledge or pedagogical approaches. Redesigns are needed to transition to an accelerated mode such as for Summer Sessions and to an updated version of the LMS (i.e., Blackboard Ultra). Program chairs make requests.
Master courses are reviewed once a year for technical and instructional integrity. Master Course Coordinators, appointed by chairs, are responsible for seeing that this review takes place and for ensuring rigor that is comparable with the face-to-face courses. They facilitate the quality enhancement consultation with instructional designers to make needed changes to the master course and report updates to the Extended Campus.
