Distance Education Faculty Development Certificate

The Distance Education Faculty Development Certificate introduces faculty to teaching online by studying best practices in online teaching and the Quality Matters Online Course Development Standards. The certificate is required for all faculty new to teaching 100% online as of July 2019. This requirement meets the revised 2019 Distance Education policy to support faculty development and learner success. However, any faculty member is welcome to earn their certificate.

To complete your Distance Education Faculty Development Certification, you must first take:

  1. Online Teaching Essentials Program
This self-paced, 24/7 available Blackboard orientation program defines expectations for online teaching and introduces university support resources.
  2. You will also need to take ONE of the following within your first year:
    • ITTD 0L-700 Online Teaching Course
This 40-hour online course addresses best practices, skills and competencies for teaching online. Various instructional applications and strategies are integrated into the course. This course is open access. Register anytime.
    • ACUE’s Effective Online Teaching Practices
