Optional Work Days are an alternative to using the 8hrs of required leave during each university winter closure date. Employees may request to work on the university's winter closed days as an alternative to using leave. Employees who request to work on these days must coordinate with and receive prior approval from their supervisor to do so. For those who receive approval to work, please note that campus services will in general be operating at normal holiday closure levels. Employees who elect and are approved to work on Optional Work Days are not eligible for holiday premium pay.

Employees who use 8 hours of vacation, bonus leave, special bonus leave, personal observance leave, or comp time for each University Closed day must report through the Leave Reporting portal in Self-Service Banner pay. The system will automatically compensatory time is used prior to other leave first. If leave is not available for use, it will be reduced for overdrawn leave.

Employees and supervisors are encouraged to review the university policies on holiday pay, overtime pay, compensatory time, and shift premium pay which are available on the Benefits page under Leave Policies and Forms.
