Research and Intern Job Scams

The intent of this fraudulent job offer that targets students is to mislead students into seeking jobs that don't exist.  Once the scammer had a student on the hook, the scammer requests resume information, asks for banking information, emails a fake N.C. A&T check, asks the student to pay for office supplies with part of the check and refund the difference via a payment app.

Red Flags To Look For:

  • Unknown/impersonated sender (# 1)

  • Urgent or emotional language; time sensitive (# 4)

  • Request for personal/financial information (# 5)

  • Mismatched sender/email addressees (# 10)

  • Sounds too good to be true (# 12)

  • Text or call a non-university number (# 14)
